History in the Making

On August 28th, Cardinal Wilton Gregory, Archbishop of Washington, dedicated the new

Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic Student Center at Howard University.

It was a historic occasion that also marked the feast day of St. Augustine of Hippo (5th cent. African Bishop) as well as the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington.

On that day, we were making Black Catholic History. This new center will allow us to expand our ministry and provide a community and a home for Catholic students to grow in their faith. We are grateful for all the benefactors and supporters who made it possible for us to have this Catholic student center to serve Howard students and the entire university community.

Present for the dedication and open house were two cardinals, one bishop, many clergy and religious, as well as a large number of Howard alumni, lay faithful, university administrators, and most importantly, our students, underscoring the significance of this occasion.
